Building a path out of the city….
According to science industrialised countries need to reduce CO2 emissions by 80% by 2050 to avoid at least an environmental disaster and potentially the sixth major extinction in our earth’s history.
It would be possible to cut emissions by 25% without changing society very much by using new technologies, renewable energy and energy efficiency. To cut by 50% would have a serious impact on our every day lives: transport, employment, leisure and food production would change. An 80% cut will result in major change in our society and the economy.
The high energy urban economy will need to decline and unnecessary activity ended. The way to allow this to happen without social unrest is to have a plan to accommodate and employ people in sustainable livings. In the rural economy this involves food, farming and forestry.
